Early Childhood Education Program

PlaygroundYeshiva Elementary School offers part-time and full-time programs for our youngest students in Playgroup (2 years) through Kindergarten. Located in a separate wing of the Yeshiva Elementary School building, with an inviting adjacent playground, the setting is an engaging one, promoting cognitive, social-emotional, physical and spiritual development in a nurturing environment guided by and infused with Torah values. High adult-child ratios in each class allow children to establish close connections and warm, trusting relationships with their teachers. Parents are encouraged to become active participants in the educational process through the many opportunities afforded throughout the year.

Early Childhood curriculum offers a balance of child-initiated and teacher-directed experiences designed to encourage children to explore, interact and take risks that lead to intellectual, social and motor skill growth. Developmentally appropriate activities in well-defined interest centers offer purposeful play choices, such as constructive play, dramatic play, art, language and literacy, science, fine motor and math manipulatives, all of which are integrated with Judaic content.
Organizing the environment so that children feel safe and supported by the consistency of classroom routines builds their confidence and enhances emotional development.

Our loving and committed teachers are dedicated toRole Play meeting the individual needs of students. Following the Creative Curriculum for Preschool, teachers use formative and portfolio assessment to guide their instruction. Experiences are designed to reinforce and extend learning in the classroom and provide young children with a sense of choice and discovery. Respectful of student interests, teachers may extend or incorporate additional activities, which emerge from student interest. Adult assistance is available to support each child’s learning, scaffolding him/her to the next stage. The Early Childhood Program envelops our youngest students in a culturally sensitive Jewish environment, and provides a strong developmental foundation for a first-rate education of excellence at Yeshiva Elementary School.
